How to Mark the Lesson

The citations listed in the Quarterly show what passages comprise each Bible Lesson. Here’s a sample Bible citation to illustrate the way it indicates the passage to be read.

If the citation is

  • A 10:14 — read to the end of the paragraph
  • 10:14 It — read starting with It on line 14
  • 10:14 (only) — read only the sentence that begins and ends on line 14.

As with the Bible, there’s a special rule: The numbers included in the platform of Christian Science (pp. 330–340) are not read, and the numbers of the tenets of Christian Science (p. 497) and of the four propositions on page 113 are not read unless these items are being read all at once in their entirety.
