Terms of Service - Bible Lesson Products
eBibleLesson.com and myBibleLesson.com
Effective Date: March 2018
1. Site User Eligibility; Registration Obligations; Passwords & Security.
BY USING EITHER SITE, YOU REPRESENT THAT YOU ARE AT LEAST 13 YEARS OF AGE. A “User” is defined as any subscribing or non-subscribing user of either Site or both Sites or the Service. Certain portions of the Sites may require you to subscribe in order to access content and may require you to register and provide information about yourself.
- If you register, you agree to give us accurate, current, and complete information about yourself as requested in the applicable Site’s registration form (the "Registration Information"), and you agree to maintain and promptly update your Registration Information to keep it current.
- If we reasonably believe the information you provide is untrue, inaccurate, not current or incomplete, we have the right to suspend or terminate your account and refuse any and all use of the Sites. If you believe that your account has been suspended or terminated in error, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- If you use one of our Sites, you represent that you are not a person barred from receiving services under the laws of the United States or other applicable jurisdiction.
When you register, you will be asked to create a password. You may not post or share your password. You are solely responsible for securing and maintaining the confidentiality of your password and account, and you agree to accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account. You must:
- immediately notify us of any unauthorized use of your password or account or any similar breach of security, and
- ensure that you log out of your account at the end of each session.
While you may not share your password, we encourage sharing Content from the Sites with family and friends as described in Section 3 below.
CSPS grants you permission to access and use the Sites and their Content in accordance with these Terms.
2. Subscriptions, Billing, Cancellation, and Customer Service.
2.1 Subscriptions. Subscriptions to myBibleLesson provide access to myBibleLesson in a PDF format and the Bible Lesson text in an HTML format. Subscriptions to eBibleLesson provide access to the eBibleLesson products in the following formats: EPUB®, HTML, PDF, online in-context, and MP3/m4a audio.
Either subscription provides access to a total of five weeks of lessons at any given time: the prior week, the current week and the three upcoming weeks. Each Sunday evening you will receive an email notice that the Site has been updated, meaning a new lesson has been added and the oldest lesson removed. If you prefer not to receive these weekly emails, log into your account, go to the “manage account” page and change the "Weekly email reminder" option from "on" to "off."
CSPS offers special licenses for Bible Lesson products to Christian Science Reading Rooms, summer camps, Institutional Committees, Christian Science nursing facilities, and certain other bulk users. For more information, go to BibleLesson.com or please contact BibleLessonLicenses@csps.com.
2.2 Billing and Automatic Renewal. Unless you are the recipient of a gift subscription, as described in Section 2.3 below, you agree to pay to CSPS all fees or charges for subscriptions and/or services purchased on or through the Service under your account at the then-current rates (including any applicable taxes). The fees or charges for subscriptions may change over time, and CSPS will send you a notice of such changes in advance via a message on or through the Service and/or email to the email address in your account.
The electronic Bible Lesson products are published weekly rather than monthly. Each billing period covers 4 issues, not a month, since some months have 5 weeks. Consequently, if you were to subscribe for a year (52 weekly issues), you would be billed 13 times (for 13 4-week periods), not for 12 months.
NOTE: Your credit card will be charged twice in the first month of your subscription. Here’s why: Our billing system is designed to charge your credit card 3 weeks in advance of the 4 weeks of access to which the charge applies. When you first subscribe, we know that you don’t want to wait for those 3 weeks to elapse before you can start accessing your issues. Therefore, the initial charge to your credit card will give you immediate access to your first 4 issues. In order to bring your account onto the standard pay-in-advance schedule, 7-10 days after the initial charge, your card will be charged again for weeks 5 through 8 of your subscription.
After the first four issues, you will be on the standard billing cycle, under which your card will be automatically charged every 4 weeks until such time as either (i) you cancel your subscription, as described in Section 2.4 below, or (ii) we are unable to successfully charge your credit card and you fail to respond to our email requesting you to update your credit card information, as described in this Section 2.2 below.
You may cancel your subscription at any time. However, refunds are not available for any unused portion of the subscription.
You will lose access to the Service on the date your subscription expires. The current expiration date is shown in your account information on the Site, but the expiration date will be updated for an additional 4 issues every time your credit card is successfully charged. Please be sure to download any available issues before you lose access to the Service.
Please keep your account information up to date. If your credit card account number or expiration date changes, please update your credit card information to avoid a suspension in your access to the Service. You may do this either by going to the “Manage account” page on the Site and clicking “Change Payment Details” or by contacting Customer Service as described in Section 2.5 below. If you need to update the address information associated with your card, please click “Change Payment Address.”
Please note: If you change your address, it will be applied to all the titles you subscribe to. However, if you update your credit card information, you will need to do so for each individual title. Changes to other CSPS accounts will require separate updates from the subscriber as needed.
2.3. Gift Subscriptions. You may purchase gift subscriptions to eBibleLesson and/or myBibleLesson. Gift recipients have their own accounts and can manage their own email address, password, and email notification delivery. Please note, to comply with federal laws protecting children's privacy on the internet only a parent or guardian can give a gift to a child under 13 years of age.
You may cancel a gift subscription at any time, as described in Section 2.4 below.
2.4. How to Cancel a Subscription. You may cancel an individual and/or gift subscription at any time by going to the “Manage account” page on the Site and clicking "Cancel Your Subscription," or by contacting Customer Service as described in Section 2.5 below. If you cancel, service will stop on the date your subscription expires, as noted in your account information. PLEASE NOTE: Refunds are not available for any unused portion of individual subscriptions; however, refunds may be requested for unused portions of gift subscriptions.
2.5. Contacting Customer Service. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your subscription or these Terms, please email email@example.com or call 1-888-424-2535.
3. Website and Content Copyrights and Permissions Guidelines.
The contents of each Site, the Sites themselves, and the contents of each issue of eBibleLesson and myBibleLesson (the “Content”) are © 2013-2018 The Christian Science Publishing Society, and/or its affiliates or licensors, and are protected by copyright, trademark, trade dress, and other intellectual property laws of the United States and of other countries. All rights not expressly granted through these Terms are reserved.
Unlike printed versions of Bible Lesson products, the eBibleLesson and myBibleLesson Content is only distributed in digital formats (via streaming, online access and/or download). This creates some great opportunities for sharing as described below, but at the same time, we’d appreciate if you could help us with copyright issues by following these important Guidelines:
A. Limitations on Use of Content.
Limited Sharing. Except as provided in these Guidelines, you may not sell, share, reproduce, distribute, publicly perform or display, modify, adapt, translate or otherwise use eBibleLesson and myBibleLesson Content, including without limitation by such means as analog copying (such as cassettes or photocopies), recordable CDs, peer sharing, web posting, emailing or linking to digital files online.
No Extracting Content. Other than for your own personal, private use, you may not capture, access, download, or extract text and/or audio Content as stand-alone files separate from their web or full issue contexts, nor may you manipulate or alter the Content after download. You may use or repurpose legitimately obtained text or Content, in whole or in part, in any way that you wish to enhance your own personal study of the Bible Lesson, but you may not distribute or archive the resulting copies. No extracting of music, photos, or graphics is permitted.
No Archiving, Republication or Derivative Use. You agree not to download all or parts of the Content in a systematic or regular manner or so as to create a database or collection of materials in any media comprising all or a subset of the Content, for further reproduction, publication, distribution, or for providing access to others, whether such collection is in electronic or print form. Furthermore, you agree not to place copies of the Content, in whole or in part, in an institutional repository, which is a form of republication. The Content may not be otherwise used without prior written permission from CSPS or in the case of third-party materials from the owner of that Content. You may not alter or remove any trademark, copyright or other notice from copies of the Content.
B. Legitimate Copies. The permission to share Content as described in these Guidelines only extends to subscribers and/or purchasers of eBibleLesson and myBibleLesson Content who have legitimately obtained the Content through purchase or subscription using the functionality of the Site. No permission is given to make additional copies of any eBibleLesson and myBibleLesson Content that has not been legitimately downloaded as described in this paragraph, including Content borrowed from Christian Science Reading Rooms or received from friends or family members, even if they have legitimately obtained the Content through purchase or subscription.
Please note that some eBibleLesson and myBibleLesson Content is not intended to be downloaded at all, but rather is provided solely for access while visiting the Site. Such Content is not authorized to be downloaded or copied, and these Guidelines do not authorize sharing of such Content.
C. Personal Use. You are welcome to print, view and/or listen to eBibleLesson and myBibleLesson Content you have legitimately downloaded for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may transfer and store downloaded digital files of Content on your personal computer and/or your other personal electronic devices in any format that you prefer.
D. Screen Sharing. You may share eBibleLesson and myBibleLesson Content through the non-public display of such Content with family and friends on the screen of a personal computer or device. In other words, you can invite others to view Content with you on your personal computer or personal electronic device, or you can pass your device around. However, please do not display the Content on a publicly-viewable screen.
Note: Reading Rooms wishing to display eBibleLesson and myBibleLesson Content on video displays should see the Guidelines for public displays on video monitors or TV screens in Reading Room windows.
E. Family Sharing. You may share printouts or digital copies of eBibleLesson and myBibleLesson Content with members of your family who are living with you for their personal use, provided that they do not further distribute or reproduce the copies. Each copy must be complete, without editing or extracting. If you regularly share an additional copy or copies with family members, please consider purchasing additional subscriptions to show support for the Bible Lessons and the mission of the CSPS.
F. Timeliness of Lessons. Due to the date-specific nature of each Bible Lesson, please delete copies and files in a reasonable period of time following each Bible Lesson’s use, rather than archiving them.
G. Music in Lessons. No separate use or copies may be made of any musical recordings included with audio Bible Lessons. These musical recordings are generally available for purchase through Reading Rooms or the CSPS Online Shop or Download Store. Please consider purchasing musical recordings you enjoy.
H. Other Sharing. Non-related housemates, dorm mates, friends, and family members living elsewhere should purchase or subscribe for their own copies of the eBibleLesson and myBibleLesson Content.
However, in order to bless others, these Guidelines permit you to share printouts (but not digital or audio copies) of Content on an occasional one-to-one basis with individuals who might benefit from receiving a copy. We leave this to your discretion and inspiration, but we ask that you kindly not use this as a way to relieve regular readers of the Bible Lesson of their “privilege and duty” to subscribe as set forth by Mary Baker Eddy in the Church Manual (Man. 44:16). If someone values the lesson enough to read it more than occasionally and is capable of subscribing, he or she should be lovingly encouraged to do so. Of course, giving a gift subscription is a nice way to accomplish the same result.
I. Institutional Subscriptions. These Guidelines do not apply to Christian Science Reading Rooms, Institutional Committees, Christian Science summer camps, or other “bulk” users. For information about obtaining a bulk license, contact us at BibleLessonlicenses@csps.com.
J. Further Restrictions. Please also see specific Prohibited Uses below.
K. More Info. To request permission for any other use of the Content or Sites, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
4. Prohibited Uses.
No Framing or Embedding. You agree not to frame or embed pages or specific Content found on the Sites. We invite you to place a link to our homepage on your site.
No Resale of Site Content. You agree not to reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, trade, resell or exploit for any commercial purposes, any portion of the Sites or the Service (including your account name), use of the Sites or the Service, or access to the Sites or the Service.
International Use. Recognizing the global nature of the Internet, you agree not to access or use the Sites, the Service, or the Content in violation of any local rules, regulations, or laws that may be applicable to you regarding online conduct and acceptable Content. Specifically, you agree not to violate any applicable laws regarding the transmission of technical data exported from the United States or the country in which you reside.
Illegal Use. As a condition of your use of either Site, you agree not to use the Sites for any purpose that is unlawful or prohibited by these Terms. You agree not to use the Sites in any manner that, in our sole discretion, could damage, disable, overburden, or impair it or interfere with any other party's use and enjoyment of the Sites. You agree not to attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Sites, or any part of the Sites, other accounts, computer systems or networks connected to the Sites, or any part of them, through hacking, password mining, or any other means or interfere or attempt to interfere with the proper working of the Sites or any activities conducted on or through the Sites. You agree not to obtain or attempt to obtain any materials or information through any means not intentionally made available through the Sites. You agree neither to modify the Sites in any manner or form, nor to use modified versions of the Sites, including (without limitation) for the purpose of obtaining unauthorized access to the Sites.
No Automated Access or Bypass of Exclusion Headers. The Sites may contain robot exclusion headers. You agree that you will not use any robot, spider, scraper, or other automated means to access the Sites for any purpose without our express written permission or bypass our robot exclusion headers or other measures we may use to prevent or restrict access to the Sites.

7. Modification of these Terms.
CSPS reserves the right, at our discretion, to change, modify, add, or remove portions of these Terms at any time. Please check these Terms periodically for changes. Your continued use of the Sites after the posting of changes constitutes your binding acceptance of such changes. For any material changes to these Terms, such amended Terms will automatically be effective 30 days after they are initially posted on or through the Sites. In the event that such modifications materially alter your rights or obligations hereunder, such modified Terms will become effective upon the earlier of (i) your continued use of either Site with actual knowledge of such modified Terms, or (ii) 30 days from publication of such modified Terms on or through the Sites.
By CSPS. You agree that CSPS, in its sole discretion and for any or no reason, may terminate the Sites or the Service, any account (or any part thereof) you may have with CSPS or your use of the Sites or the Service at any time. CSPS may also in its sole discretion and at any time discontinue providing access to the Sites, the Service or the Content, or any part thereof, with or without notice. You agree that CSPS will not be liable to you or any third party for any such termination except as described in these Terms. Provided that you have complied fully with the Terms, upon CSPS’s termination of the Sites or the Service or your account, CSPS will refund any prepaid fees for subscriptions and/or services that have not yet been provided.
By You. You may cancel your subscription or a gift subscription at any time (see Sections 2.3 and 2.4).
Survival. Sections 2, 3, and 12 through 16 will survive any termination of these Terms.
9. Third-Party Sites, Products and Services; Links.
The Sites may include links to other websites or services unaffiliated with CSPS ("Linked Sites") solely as a convenience to Users. CSPS does not endorse or make any express or implied warranties with regard to any such Linked Sites or the information, materials, products, or services contained on or accessible through Linked Sites. ACCESS AND USE OF LINKED SITES, INCLUDING THE INFORMATION, MATERIALS, PRODUCTS, AND SERVICES ON LINKED SITES OR AVAILABLE THROUGH LINKED SITES, IS SOLELY AT YOUR OWN RISK.

12. Disclaimers; No Warranties.
UNLESS OTHERWISE EXPRESSLY STATED BY CSPS, THE SITE, THE SERVICE AND ANY CONTENT, SERVICES, OR APPLICATIONS MADE AVAILABLE IN CONJUNCTION WITH OR THROUGH THE SERVICE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMISSIBLE PURSUANT TO APPLICABLE LAW, CSPS, ITS AFFILIATES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, LICENSORS AND LICENSEES DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, STATUTORY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT OF PROPRIETARY RIGHTS, CORRECTNESS, ACCURACY, AND RELIABILITY.
UNLESS OTHERWISE EXPRESSLY STATED BY CSPS, CSPS, ITS AFFILIATES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, LICENSORS AND LICENSEES DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE, THE SERVICE AND ANY CONTENT, SERVICES, OR APPLICATIONS MADE AVAILABLE IN CONJUNCTION WITH OR THROUGH THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED, OR THAT THE SITE, THE SERVICE AND ANY CONTENT, SERVICES, OR APPLICATIONS MADE AVAILABLE IN CONJUNCTION WITH OR THROUGH THE SERVICE OR THE SERVER THAT MAKES THEM AVAILABLE ARE FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
CERTAIN STATE LAWS DO NOT ALLOW LIMITATIONS ON IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN DAMAGES. IF THESE LAWS APPLY TO YOU, SOME OR ALL OF THE ABOVE DISCLAIMERS, EXCLUSIONS, OR LIMITATIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU, AND YOU MIGHT HAVE ADDITIONAL RIGHTS.
13. Indemnification; Hold Harmless.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CSPS, its affiliates, its service providers, licensors and licensees from any claims, losses, damages, liabilities, including attorneys’ fees, arising out of your use or misuse of the Sites and Content, violation of these Terms, violation of the rights of any other person or entity, or any breach of the foregoing representations, warranties, and covenants. CSPS and its affiliates reserve the right, at their own expense, to assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter for which you are required to indemnify CSPS and its affiliates, and you agree to cooperate with such defense of these claims.
14. Limitation of Liability and Damages.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, NEGLIGENCE, WILL CSPS OR CSPS’S AFFILIATES, CONTRACTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR THIRD-PARTY SERVICE PROVIDERS, LICENSORS, OR LICENSEES BE LIABLE FOR ANY SPECIAL, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE USE OF THE SITE OR THE SERVICE, INCLUDING THOSE THAT RESULT FROM THE USE OR THE INABILITY TO USE THE MATERIALS ON THE SERVICE, OR ANY OTHER INTERACTIONS WITH CSPS, EVEN IF CSPS OR A CSPS AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. APPLICABLE LAW MAY NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY OR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. IN SUCH CASES, CSPS’S AND CSPS’S AFFILIATES, CONTRACTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR THIRD-PARTY SERVICE PROVIDERS, LICENSORS, OR LICENSEES’ LIABILITY WILL BE LIMITED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW.
IN NO EVENT WILL CSPS OR CSPS’S AFFILIATES, CONTRACTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR THIRD-PARTY SERVICE PROVIDERS, LICENSORS, OR LICENSEES HAVE ANY LIABILITY TO YOU FOR DAMAGES, LOSSES, AND CAUSES OF ACTION ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE SITE OR THE SERVICE (WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE, WARRANTY, OR OTHERWISE).
15. Choice of Law and Forum.
The Terms and the relationship between both of us shall be exclusively governed by the laws of the United States and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Your exclusive forum for bringing any claim or cause of action against us is the courts located in the City of Boston, Massachusetts U.S.A. You hereby accept and submit to the personal and exclusive jurisdiction of such courts in any proceeding or action. With respect to any such proceeding or action brought in such courts, you hereby irrevocably waive, to the fullest extent permitted by law: (a) any objection you may have now or in the future to such jurisdiction or venue, and (b) any claim that such action or proceeding has been brought in an inconvenient forum. Nothing limits our right to commence and prosecute any legal or equitable action or proceeding before any court of competent jurisdiction to obtain injunctive or any other form of relief.
Waiver. A provision of these Terms may be waived only by a written instrument executed by the party entitled to the benefit of such provision. The failure of any party at any time to require performance of any provision of these Terms will in no manner affect such party's right at a later time to enforce the same. A waiver of any breach of any provision of these Terms will not be construed as a continuing waiver of other breaches of the same or other provisions of these Terms.
Severability. If any provision of these Terms shall be unlawful, void, or for any reason unenforceable, then that provision will be deemed severable from these Terms and will not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining provisions.
Assignment. These Terms, and any rights and licenses granted hereunder, may not be transferred or assigned by you but may be assigned by CSPS without restriction.
Headings. The heading references herein are for convenience purposes only, do not constitute a part of these Terms, and will not be deemed to limit or affect any of the provisions hereof.
Entire Agreement. This is the entire agreement between you and CSPS relating to the subject matter herein and will not be modified except in writing, signed by both parties, or by a change to these Terms made by CSPS as set forth in Section 7 above.
